I FINALLY GOT A JOB! At 19 for the first time in my life I finally have a legitimate job as an installer and programmer for a local communications and home automation company. Pay is decent ($10/hr starting) and I can more or less make my own hours with very little restriction. HEAVEN. 2015 keeps getting better.

Downer of the week: My girlfriend is insanely sick right now and can't afford a doctor. I'm not sure how to handle this one D:

what is insanely sick? If she doesn't have insurance she should be hitting the free clinic or the ER. Getting whacked with fees is better than something that might cause long term harm or worse.

As for your gf... healthcare.gov open enrollment lasts until the 15th. Coverage would kick in on Feb 1, but hey at least it'll be there for the next time.

(Or if she's under 26 and her parents have health insurance she should see about what it would cost for them to add her to their plan, and then offer to pay them that.)

She's under 21 and AFAIK her mom has no health insurance due to having no job and being unable to get disability in this goddamn state (Kansas is one of the worst in the nation to try and get disability).

Here in the land of the free (healthcare), there's layers of healthcare you can call NHS direct for free and they'll help diagnose and advise if it's minor, if you think you might need medication but it's not serious, you can get a consultation at a pharmacy, serious illness is a doctor and worse is emergency room.

also, we have manuals. sold on the UK yet?

Truth. When I moved out it was because I had joined the Navy. I worked long hours for shit pay, but me and some friends rented a place and we had a ball. Growing up is always a mixed bag, you get more freedoms and abilities, but more responsibilities come with it.

Flu has been nasty this year but doesn't require a doctor visit unless it is real bad.

My girl had it a few weeks back exactly like this. As much water as she can handle and keep down. Make her some chicken soup FROM SCRATCH, not a sodium bomb package/can for when she can hold it down. I have a good recipe that makes a whole pot for under $10 if you want it. Quick and dirty, but healthy and nutritious.

If it came down to she is getting more sick and her fever is ridiculous, just figure out where the free/walk in clinic is. If you don't have the scratch I will call in my credit card for a visit.

Welp, if she (and her mom) have low income, they can either apply for Medicaid (i.e. government-run health insurance for low-income people), or they can go on healthcare.gov, where you can see what subsidies and/or tax credits they qualify for to purchase insurance through a private insurer.

My gf just left her full-time job to go part-time to help her ailing parents out. She went through healthcare.gov and based on her new, lower income, she was able to get a pretty solid health plan for herself for $55/month.

Also, sorry to hear about your girlfriend. If it is just a stomach bug, it will pass. Just have her stay as hydrated as possible. If the vomiting lasts through a third day, have her go to the ER. She could become dangerously dehydrated, and they will likely start an IV. As for the no insurance, check this out:
